October 10, 2011

Dr. Oz said that obesity has reached epidemic levels and the reason why we can't lose weight is because of carbs.  The diet killer carbohydrates in question are the chips, breads, pasta, and cake. Science has shown that the addiction to carbohydrates can make you nearly powerless from carb cravings.

Chris Powell's Revolutionary Weight Loss Plan

Chris Powell's High and Low Carb Diet Plan on Dr. OzDr. Oz had on a guest named Chris Powell who claims to know how to cut your cravings to carbs. Powell is a trainer and transformation specialist.  He has an innovative way to lose weight and was featured on a TLC documentary when he helped an obese man lose 400 pounds! Now he is the host of ABC's extreme makeover show called "Weight Loss Addition."  Chris Powell says that the secret to weight loss begins in the mind. Regardless of how much weight you want to lose it's never to late to turn your life around.

Dr. Oz sat down to talk with Chris Powell about his revolutionary weight loss plan. Dr. Oz say's that many people are overwhelmed and don't know where to start.  Powell says that people need to believe in themselves and truly believe that they can accomplish anything that they set their mind to.  He say's that he really loves working with the super obese because if they can do it, everyone else can too!  He says that transformation truly begins when you can unload emotional baggage that is getting in the way.  So how do you get rid of your emotional baggage? Chris Powell says that no man is an island and everyone needs at least one person in which to rely upon.

Set A Smart Weight Loss Goal

  • Specific - You need to pinpoint your goal. You can't just say that you want to be healthier.  Your goal needs to be more specific like, "I want to lose 15 pounds"
  • Measurable
  • Attainable - Make sure your goals are attainable. Chris Powell says that some people will say, "I am going to set aside 3 hours a day to exercise."  Depending on your schedule this may not be attainable.  Make goals that you can attain.
  • Realistic - Don't make a goal to lose a huge amount of weight in a short period of time. Chris says to take your body weight and divide it by 100. This will give you a realistic number of weight that you can lose every week.
  • Time sensitive - Don't say I will lose the weight "In Time." Use words like "urgency."  "In Time", may never come.  Make a time frame in which you will achieve your goals.
Dr. Oz asked Chris Powell about Carbs in his weight loss plan.  Powell said that many people are scared of consuming carbs, but our bodies run off of carbohydrates. We need to know how to implement only the good carbohydrates into our diets.

Carb Cycling - Alternating High and Low Carb Days

A High Carb Day On Chris Powell's Plan Consists Of :
  • Eat 5 meals during the day, 3 hours in between
  • One serving of protein & one serving of complex carbs
  • Minimize fat

High Carb Day

In Chris Powell's Revolutionary diet plan he alternates high and low carb days. This is an example of a high carb day :
  • Breakfast - Breakfast tacos. Remember one part protein, one complex carbs, and unlimited veggies.
  • AM Snack - Greek yogurt with granola
  • Lunch - Tuna sandwich
  • PM Snack - Chocolate oatmeal shake (whey chocolate protein)
  • Turkey and veggie medly - Mix in turkey with brown rice, peas, and corn

Low Carbohydrate Day Diet Plan

  • Breakfast Shake - The first meal is actually high carb. You want to ingest most of your daily carbs first thing in the morning. This will boost your metabolic rate to be in fat burning mode for the rest of the day.
  • AM Snack - Cottage cheese with Avacado
  • Lunch - Garlic herb salmon salad
  • PM Snack - Turkey roll ups. Use the turkey as the "roll up". You don't need to use tortilla shells. Wrap up your veggies in turkey!
  • Dinner - Instead of pasta substitute in zucchini and squash with cheese and mixed veggies.
You alternate high and low carbohydrate days for the first six days.  On the 7th day you are allowed to eat anything that you want!  This is important because people feel deprived when they are on the diet. You need to satisfy your emotional and psychological needs. However, there are rules to the 7th day diet plan.  You shouldn't go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of food that doesn't fit into your 6 day diet. Chris Powell says that on the 7th day you should get outside of your house and go to your favorite restaurant.  Also don't bring any leftovers home!
