Jennifer told Dr. Oz that she has been battling weight her entire life. Every since she was a young child, weight has always been an issue. Dr. Oz asked Jennifer what prompted her to lose the weight. She said that she first had to come to grips witht he fact that she had a weight problem. Then she had do decide that she was ready to commit to losing the weight. The next step was to join Weight Watchers. Jennifer said that she thinks you have to truly be ready to lose the weight for it to be a long term success. <br />

Jennifer Hudson told Dr. Oz that after she had her baby, she wanted to set a healthy example for her child. After the baby she knew she had to get out of the "pregnant way of eating" mentality. Jennifer had a C section during her labor so exercise wouldn't be part of the weight loss equation at least initially, so changing her eating habits came first. She said that her weight loss goals inspired her entire family and that a whopping 175 members of her family followed suit and joined Weight Watchers as well!<br />
<br />
Dr. Oz asked about her emotions since she lost lost weight. Jennifer smiled and said, "empowerment". She said that she has accomplished many amazing things during her young career but accomplishing a personal goal that has affected her entire life was truly empowering. She learned that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.<br />

Jennifer Hudson revealed to Dr. Oz that there were many times in her life when she thought that she would never be able to lose the weight, and that it would always be there. She finally realized that she was making excuses to not lose the weight. She said that you shouldn't beat yourself up. She closed with some very good advice. Lose weight for yourself and never for anyone else!<br />

First off Chris Powell's squashes the notion that your metabolism is hereditary (in most cases) so if your parents are overweight, that doesn't mean that you are doomed to follow in their footsteps. She said that she has been struggling with her weight her entire life. In fact, she began to question if she even had a metabolism at all because it seemed like she would gain weight if she ate anything!<br />

<b>Metabolism Boosting Power Plate</b><br />

<ol><li>Your metabolism power plate should consist of eating protein, veggies, and healthy complex carbohydrates and fats. Chris Powell said that breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, and this is the time when you turn on your metabolism for the day. Three hours after you have breakfast you should have a snack (a healthy snack, like some nuts and not a bag of chips!). This will give your metabolism a boost until lunch. After you eat a healthy lunch your metabolism will boost again! Three hours later have another snack, and then 3 hours later you have dinner. This way your metabolism has stayed boosted all day and is constantly burning the calories you have eaten. Chris says that when you skip meals or don't allow yourself a snack your bodies metabolism is low and whatever you eat will be stored as fat. So keep on eating (in a healthy way to lose weight!)</li>
<li>Turn up your Metabolic Thermostat - Your thyroid gland is what regulates your "metabolism thermostat" You can adjust this thermostat by the foods that you eat. Chris Powell says that you should opt for the healthy carbs like whole grains, sweet potatoes, beans, rainbow colored fruits and vegetables, etc... Carbohydrates are actually important when trying to lose weight because eliminating carbs can lower your thyroid function and thus lower your metabolic thermostat.</li>
<li>Weight training to increase metabolic muscle - Chris said that you should start working your larger muscles first like your quadriceps and hamstrings. Then work the smaller muscles. Just adding a little muscle goes a long way to increasing your metabolism and burning extra calories all day long!</li>

After you swallow your food down your esophagus it goes into the stomach. Your stomach consists of 5 layers with the duty of digesting your food. Your stomach creates acids to digests your food. However, if you have H-Pylori bacteria in your stomach it can hinder this process. H-Pylori invades the cells in your stomach that protect you from stomach acid. Without this protection the acid destroys the stomach tissue which is an open invitation for cancer cells to form and grow.<br />

<h2>Stomach Cancer Risk Factors</h2><ul><li>Smoked and processed meats (hotdogs, bacon, sausage, etc...) - Processed meats always seems to be one of the risk factors when it comes to cancer. Stomach cancer is no exception. The nitrates in processed meats react with your muscle tissue during the cooking process.</li>

<ul><li>1/4 cup of popcorn</li>
<li>1 brown bag</li>
<li>pour the cup of popcorn into the bag </li>
<li>Fold over the top of the bag</li>
<li>Microwave for 2 minutes until popping slows to a near stop (microwave times will vary according to the strength of the microwave).</li>
<li>Spray some cooking spray into the bag to help the spices stick to the popcorn</li>
<li>Add spices (Dr. Oz suggested using cinnamon or garlic salt for added flavor)</li>
</ul>Buttered popcorn that you buy from the store is loaded with unhealthy fats. This is a great alternative way to enjoy popcorn in a healthier fashion.<br />

Today's November 11, 2011 show was about how you can lose weight by finding a buddy to join you on your weight loss journey. Statistics show that you will lose more weight and will be more likely to keep it off if you have a buddy to help encourage you along the way.<br />

Today Dr. Oz brought in 50 women all across the nation to come on to the show. None of these women know each other or who their partner will be! Dr. Oz first segment was called "Blind Date To Lose Weight".<br />

Dr. Oz asked some women what they thought was keeping them from losing weight. The overwhelming response was that they are so busy being a full time mom and there isn't enough time for themselves. They spend so much time feeding and pleasing everyone else they don't have enough time to concentrate on their own weight loss goals.<br />
<br />
<b>Benefits of losing weight with a stranger?</b><br />
<br />
Dr. Oz had on an expert and asked her what the psychological benefits are of working with a total stranger to lose weight. She said that there are tremendous benefits of trying to lose weight this way. She said that your "buddy" will offer empathy to you and you also gain internal strength knowing that there is someone else in the same boat as you are. Otherwise you feel really alone in your weight loss program. She said that you should find someone that will support you in your weight loss goals and not one that will undermine you.<br />

<b><span style="font-size: large;">3 Questions To Ask Your Weight Loss Buddy</span></b><br />
<ol><li>How much weight do you want to lose? This is about setting goals and knowing what each of you are working towards.</li>
<li>Why did you gain the weight in the first place? This helps you to identify what paths have led you to the weight gain. This can also help what has slipped you up in the past and might help your buddy to help keep you from slipping again in the future.</li>
<li>What are your vices? This will help your buddy identify potential pitfalls to your weight loss goals.</li>
</ol><b><span style="font-size: large;">5 Buddy Plan Weight Loss Agreements</span></b><br />
<ol><li><b>I will call every night with my high and low</b> - During this step you should tell your buddy what your high and low points of your day in relation to your weight loss goals. Did you snack on candy? That would be your low point. Did you pass up on birthday cake? That would be a high point. </li>
<li><b>I will exchange my daily meal plan the night before with my buddy and stick to it.</b></li>
<li><b>I will text or or email my "hunger score" before I eat anything. -</b> A #1 hunger score would be that your really not hungry. A #2 hunger score would signify that you feel like you are starving!</li>
<li><b>I will email 2 photos of your future goals.</b> Maybe the pictures will be of that perfect dress that you used to fit into. Or maybe an old photo of yourself back before you gained weight.</li>

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer for women and it doesn't care about your race or ethnicity. It can also be deadly as well. Every 69 seconds a woman dies from breast cancer. Today Dr. Oz gives advice that every woman should take notice too. Today Dr. Oz gave the facts to end the confusion and discussed ways in which you can protect yourself.<br />

Breast cancer screenings are critical for every woman. Did you know that 85% of women diagnosed with breast cancer are still alive 10 years later after diagnosis.<br />
<br />
Dr. Oz had on a guest physician named Ruth Oratz. She said that your exposure to estrogen is the #1 risk factor for breast cancer. She said that only 5-10% have a genetic susceptibility. The estrogen's exposure to breast tissue can cause cancers to start developing.<br />
<br />
<h2>Estrogen Risk Factors</h2><br />
<ul><li>You started menstruating before age 12</li>
<li>You had first child after 30</li>
<li>You bottle fed your children</li>
<li>You went into menopause after 55</li>
<li>You had hormone treatments</li>
</ul><b>How can we control our estrogen levels?</b><br />
<ul><li> Controlling weight. Being overweight and having more fat cells increase the amounts of estrogen that women have in their bodies. Fat cells produce and store estrogen. Women 45 pounds overweight have twice the risk of getting breast cancer.</li>
<li>Breast density - Dense breast tissue is more at risk of developing breast cancer. Dr. Oz said that "You would think" that you could tell if your breasts were dense or not, simply by touching them. However, you can not. Dr. Ruth Oratz said that the only way to tell if you have dense breasts is through a mammogram. Dense breasts make it much harder to detect breast cancers. If you have dense breasts ultrasounds are very helpful. MRI's are helpful as well. There is a new test called digital tomosynthesis that takes a three dimensional image of your breasts.</li>

<h1>Foods To Prevent Breast Cancer</h1><br />
<b>Sulfur Rich Foods</b> - Broccoli, Cauliflower, Arugula, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts contain an ingredient called sulforaphane are the best foods that you can eat when it comes to cancer fighting properties. Broccoli sprouts are fabulous because just a pinch of broccoli sprouts has as much compounds as what a pound of fully grown broccoli does!<br />

Growing up we often model ourselves with what we saw while we were growing up. We do this on both a conscious and subconscious level.<br />

<b>#4 I'm Overwhelmed By The Idea Of Being With Her Forever</b><br />
<br />
The second husband said that the "Idea" of being with his wife forever is overwhelming. Dr. Laura Berman says that monogamy doesn't come naturally to us. We didn't used to live long after our reproductive years. Now we are living much longer and it can be overwhelming to look at the whole picture. Dr. Turner recommends hugging your spouse for 30 seconds or longer when this happens. He said that studies show that this releases the "cuddling hormone" and can make this feeling go away.<br />
<br />
Dr. Oz (who has been married for 26 years) told the couple that you have to reinvent yourself over the course of your entire marriage. He said that you can't be the same person 20 years from now as what year are today. He says that if you never evolve in a relationship it's never going to work. If you can reinvent the relationship over the course of time it's almost as if you are marrying different people. Dr. Oz says that he has been married to four different women. They different women just happened to have the same social security # and birth certificate.<br />

<b>#3 I Don't Know What I'm Doing "Down There"</b><br />

The third husband revealed that he thinks that he doesn't know what he is doing "down there." The wife was caught by surprise by this. She says that he does a fine job in that aspect of their sex life. Dr. Turner said that when it comes to that department men are often "Ill-cliterate". He said that it is of no fault to the men, it's just that there is often a lack of sex education in that area. He said that most of orgasm producing nerve endings are located in areas that are exposed. With just a little female understanding any man can become "Clitterate".<br />

Dr. Laura Berman says that communication is key. You can't assume that the men knows what he is doing down there. With just a little guidance sex can be more enjoyable for both partners.<br />

<b>#2 I Am Jealous Of My Single Friends</b><br />

The "Soon To Be" husband said that he is jealous of his friends single lifestyle and the freedom associated with being single. He said that he is envious of how his single friends can go out and not have anyone to have to answer to.<br />

Dr. Berman said that there really isn't anything to be jealous of. She said that studies have shown that married men actually have more sex and also live longer than single men.<br />

Dr. Turner believes that independence is very important in a marriage. He says that the strongest marriages that he has come across allows for the spouses to have their independence. He thinks that you should still be allowed to go out and enjoy many of the things that single people enjoy.<br />

<b>#1 I Watch More Porn Than You Know</b><br />
<br />
The husband says that watching porn from "professionals" helps him to learn how to have sex better. Dr. Laura Berman says that do not get your "sex education" from watching porn. It is geared towards men (Dr. Oz audience gave an applause to this). What you are seeing on a porno is rarely what turn a woman on. She also said that men masterbate frequently and they like the visual stimulation that porn provides them. She said that if a man says that he doesn't masterbate, Dr. Berman said that you can be assured at a 99% accuracy that he isn't telling the truth and that he does masterbate.<br />

She understood the health ramifications that is taking her toll on her body but couldn't get herself to stop eating in such an unhealthy way. 6 months ago she could only take about 30 steps before she felt winded. At night while her and her husband slept, he would have to sleep at the end of the bed so she has enough room. She felt like a burden to her husband because it had gotten to the point that she could no longer take care of herself.<br />

Dr. Oz initially challenged Colleen to lose the weight and at first she did well and lost 30 pounds. Then she quit her diet and only lost one more LB.. So Dr. Oz sent her to North Carolina for 30 days to a facility to work on diet and weight loss.<br />

<h2>So Did Colleen Lose The Weight in 6 Months?</h2><br />
Colleen came out walking much better than she did 6 months ago! Dr. Oz let her know that he didn't enjoy being harsh on her but he felt like everything that he was saying to her was falling on deaf ears. He wasn't getting through to her initially. She said that everything she learned at the weight loss facility (called the Structure House in North Carolina) was a life changing experience. She began seeing herself in a new light and started seeing hope for herself.<br />

Colleen initially weighed 700 LB's on the show. Dr. Oz took her over to the scale to see if she met her goal to lose 100 pounds. Dr. Oz said that he was probably more nervous than she was. She weighed in at 581 pounds. Colleen lost 120 LB's in 6 months! Needless to say, this brought tears to Colleen's eyes. After telling Colleen how proud he was, he then told her that this journey isn't over. She has more to lose and to remember all the tools that she has learned to get her where she is at today.<br />

He asked the audience of women when was the last year that they had "mind blowing" sex. The years varied throughout the audience but none of them said 2011. The survey said that 59% of women are faking orgasm and 70% of women prefer to have sex with the lights off. 80% of the survey participants said that their best sex was in their 20's and 30's.<br />

Dr. Oz noticed that a woman from the audience had "1985" on her t-shirt (which displayed the last year she had great sex) and he asked her why she hasn't had great sex in so long. She said that she thinks it is because of stress. Back in 1985 she was 21 years old and didn't have the daily life stresses that she has had ever since. <br />
<br />
Many of the women in Dr. Oz's audience don't think they are sexy anymore and that their best years are behind them. Dr. Oz said that this way of thinking needs to be changed and today he is going to show you some ways to bring great sex back into your life.<br />

She said that she thinks this is one of the worst things that you can do. She said that there are many chemical irritants in over the counter lubrication products that can do more harm than good. Dr. Ashton recommends that following ways to improve lubrication problems :<br />

</ol>Dr. Oz asked Jennifer Ashton what women can do. She said that the most important thing women can do is to communicate with your partner and your doctor if you are having libido issues or problems in your sex life. <br />

Dr. Ashton also recommends using a vibrator. She said a generation ago this may have been taboo but not anymore. She said that it is great for nerves, blood flow, and inexpensive!<br />

Could HGH really be the fountain of youth? HGH stands for human growth hormone. It comes from deep inside the middle of the brain at the pituitary gland. Dr. Oz says that the hormone is released by the pituitary gland at different rates throughout the day. At night while you are sleeping is when it is released the most. This is the theory behind HGH. Dr. Oz brought on doctors to discuss this theory about HGH, it's safety, and if it is indeed the fountain of youth.<br />

Dr. Oz brought two doctors on both sides of the fence about HGH. First he spoke to Dr. Alex Martin, a proponent for HGH about how people can know if they will benefit from the hormone. Dr. Martin said that they do a complete endocrine system workup and make sure that the patient is cancer free. It is then up to the doctor to decide if HGH will be beneficial to the patient.<br />

Dr. Stuart Weinerman was asked about HGH and he is against using the hormone as an anti-aging treatment. He said that they don't have enough long term safety data in healthy people. It has only been studied in patients who have HGH deficiencies pituitary disease. Dr. Weinerman then said that some of the short term risks associated with HGH are swelling, extra body fluid edema, joint pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. His major issue is that it induces insulin resistance and raises your risk for diabetes. There are also some unclear risks that may be associated with HGH such as heart disease and can potentially raise your risk for cancer.<br />

<b>Do Dr.'s Prescribe HGH Because Of The Financial Rewards?</b><br />

Dr. Oz asked Dr. Martin about the concerns that people have saying that they think physicians prescribe HGH as a money making venture. Dr. Martin said that this is indeed a concern because unqualified physicians are prescribing HGH to people without the proper examinations.<br />
<br />
<h2>Dr. Oz's Opinion About HGH</h2><br />
Dr. Oz says that there isn't enough data out yet about HGH. He is afraid that people taking the hormone are in sense human guinea pigs. We do not yet know what is going to happen to people over decades. In response Dr. Martin said they have patients that have been taking the hormone since 1996. While that still isn't over multiple decades the 15 year track record is significant.<br />
<br />
It's Dr. Oz's opinion that this is all one big experiment and the people taking HGH are the mice in the cages. He says that when you receive an HGH injection you change the way all of your other hormones act. He is also concerned about all the people out there that can make money off of people and feed of their fears. He is also concerned about people receiving HGH from people other than physicians.
